HOW TO HEAT CORRECTLY

If you have a gas heater at home, you may be trying to use it as sparingly as possible this winter – and resort to heating alternatives. We’ll show you how to heat without heating, keep yourself and your home warm in the process, and prevent dampness and the risk of mold. So you are safe when playing kazino online.

Many houses and apartments are still heated by gas or oil heating. This winter, due to the sharp rise in energy prices, people with gas heating in particular will be looking for alternatives.

OUR TIPS

Tip 1: Dress warmer – that heats up

First of all, dress yourself warmly! Of course, this is not to compensate for sub-zero temperatures in the apartment. But with a sweater, tights and a second pair of socks, you won’t freeze even if it’s a few degrees colder than you’re used to. This saves energy and is also very cozy. In the fall, you can put off heating for a while. And in the dead of winter, your apartment doesn’t have to be so warm that you can walk around in a t-shirt.

Tip 2: Heating is useless without good insulation

Also, your home should be as well insulated as possible. Otherwise you are literally heating out of the window. The floor, for example, can be kept warm to the touch with cork tiles without any heating at all. Less cozy, but insulating, are reflective metal sheets on the walls. To prevent drafts through leaky windows, you can seal the windows with rubber seals from the hardware store. You do not need to ask your landlord for permission.

Note: Please note that if you have a fireplace or a so-called room-air dependent fireplace in the room, you are not allowed to seal the windows and doors on your own. Always consult your chimney sweep to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. By the way: You should also inform your chimney sweep about the installation of new windows and doors. The obligation to notify also applies here.

One thing that doesn’t do much for a warm apartment is an insulating foil behind the radiators. A thicker insulation board is better if the exterior walls are not insulated anyway.

Tip 3: Fan heaters as a heating alternative?

The advantage of a fan heater is obvious: quickly available heat anywhere there are electrical outlets.

The big disadvantage is that a fan heater consumes an enormous amount of electricity during operation. If it’s not green electricity, sustainable heating is quickly over. With green electricity, on the other hand, this is okay from a sustainability perspective, but the electricity costs are still correspondingly high.

Fan heaters are inexpensive to buy: small models cost less than 20 euros, while ceramic models cost 40 euros and more. However, the device should only be used for a short time and with green electricity – a fan heater is not a long-term heating alternative.

Experts from the consumer advice center also advise against longer operation: This does not save money, but drives up the electricity bill. In addition, there is the danger that too many fan heaters can overload the power distribution networks.

Important when purchasing:

  • Pay attention to tilt and overheating protection, otherwise it can come in the worst case to room fires.
  • The tilt protection ensures that the fan heater switches off automatically if it falls over. This is a must especially if you have children or pets that sometimes run around the apartment unsupervised.
  • The overheat protection breaks the circuit if the fan heater gets too hot.
  • When using fan heaters in the bathroom, be sure to use splash guards!
  • Fan heaters are really a stopgap solution and ecologically problematic if they are not powered by green electricity.
