Surprising Your Kids With a Bedroom Makeover? This Is Your Guide

Your children have shared the same bedroom ever since they were too little. In fact, you just blinked, and they are already outgrowing their room so much that it’s already time for a much-needed upgrade.

You just have one problem—you don’t know exactly where to start. No need to worry—we’ve got you sorted with these ideas:

Choose a Colour Palette

Gone were the days when your children’s room was filled with superheroes and movie characters that they were so obsessed with. Since they’re already grown up, you can go for a colour palette that will transition with them into their teen years. Ask your children’s input on this since they are the ones who will be sleeping in their bedroom. But if they give you freedom to do whatever you want, go for something neutral and just add pops of colour or an accent wall, so the space is still perfect for kids.

Invest in their Bed

If you only have enough budget to splurge on one thing, make it your kids’ bed. If you already have an existing bed frame and mattress, you can invest in a single mattress topper that will make their beds feel brand new even if you’re not really buying a new mattress and bed frame. You can also buy new bed sheets and pillows while you’re at it.

Put a Lot of Storage in the Bedroom

Your kids will need a lot of storage as they grow up, so make sure that you have that for them. If you want to control clutter in their bedrooms, choose furniture that offers a lot of storage. For instance, you can replace their old side tables with ones that have multiple drawers where they can keep their personal stuff. You can also invest in bigger dressers or cabinets that will help keep the clutter from taking over their bedroom. It’s also good to allocate specific storage areas for your kids, especially if they’re sharing a bedroom.

Designate a Personal Space for Each of Your Kids

You already know that sharing a bedroom can cause conflicts between your kids. But if you still don’t have the budget to give them their own bedrooms, you can designate a personal space for each of your kids to make sure that they can still enjoy privacy even if they’re sharing a bedroom. If you have some extra funds and the space, you can replace their bunk beds with two single beds. You can also give them each a desk or use a curtain to divide the space between your kids.

Put a Lot of Lighting in the Bedroom

Finally, lighting is one of the easiest ways to upgrade the look of your kids’ bedroom without spending a lot of money. Aside from giving them their own lamps, you can also add an accent light with different options to give them better control of their preferred lighting depending on their mood.
