The Ultimate Checklist for a Family Beach Holiday
If you are a parent, you already know the value of preparation, especially when it comes to a family package holiday at a beach resort, and with that in mind, we would like to present what we think is a comprehensive checklist for a family beach holiday.
-
- Clothing – Beachwear can be washed on the fly; hang it in the balcony and its dry in a couple of hours. Bring minimal when it comes to kids’ clothing, which is typically sold by beach vendors for next to nothing.
- Beach towels – While you have use of a couple of big towels at the hotel, you can’t take them out of the complex, hence you should bring one beach towel per child and only use them when outside the resort.
- Sunscreen – Bring a couple of large bottles of quality sunscreen and apply it before you head for the beach; be rigid with the policy of applying before sun exposure; a child with sunburn is not a pleasant entity!
- Mozzie cream – Rather than trying to keep mozzies away, the best protection is to apply mozzie repellent cream, which should be applied before leaving your hotel suite.
- Health insurance – We think that personal goods insurance is optional, not so for health insurance; find an online insurer with a comprehensive family health insurance policy that covers everything. Hospital treatment can be very expensive, so don’t take any chances; a secure online payment activates the policy and you can relax, knowing you are covered for any medical emergency.
- Antiseptic wipes – You can never have enough of these; pack 2 large packs with sealed bags that keep the wipes moist and always take one pack when going out.
- First aid kit – A basic first aid kit doesn’t take up much space and with the family in tow, it really is a good idea to have access to plasters, bandages, wound cleaning solution and sterile patches.
- Children’s underwear – This takes up little space so make sure you have at least 3 pairs per child. Drying clothing is never an issue when on a beach holiday and being prepared is half the battle.
- Power adapter – Search online and invest in a good quality universal adapter that enables you to charge your digital devices wherever you happen to be. Take a set of extra rechargeable batteries just to be on the safe side.
- Take a money belt – This ties around the waist and is the best place for passports, tickets, insurance certificates and any essential medication. Pickpockets take advantage of travellers that look out of place and when travelling with children, be wary of anyone that makes physical contact. You can store the belt in the room safe when you want to spend the day on the beach; all you need is a bit of cash for drinks and snacks.
Lay everything on your bed and go through each item, ticking it off your checklist and your holiday should be trouble-free.
