Water on a concrete floor saw is not for the blade, it is for the lungs of whoever is pushing it

The water feed looks like a cooling accessory
American slab work runs hard through the end of summer, and every pour eventually needs cutting. A concrete floor saw with a water feed is usually explained as protecting the blade, which is true and is the smaller half of the reason.
Cutting with a concrete floor saw dry releases respirable crystalline silica, particles small enough to reach deep into the lungs and stay there. The dust cloud behind a dry saw is the recognized hazard on a slab, and water at the blade suppresses it at the source.
The particles that matter are the ones nobody sees
Visible dust settles within minutes. The fraction that causes harm is far finer, hangs in the air long after the saw has stopped, and travels well beyond the person cutting, which is why enclosed rooms are considerably worse than open sites.

The window depends on the mix, the weather, and the slab. Warm days shorten it considerably, which is why late summer pours are cut sooner than the same job would be in spring and why crews watch the slab rather than the clock.
Depth is a fraction of the slab, not a full cut
A control joint only needs a concrete floor saw to go deep enough to create a weak line, usually about a quarter of the thickness. Cutting deeper wastes blade and time, and on a reinforced slab it risks reaching steel that was placed to be left alone.
